Yeah Yeah Yeahs Announce New Album for Spring 2013
It’s Blitz!, released in 2009, was the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ last release, but after a three-year absence, the band recently announced through Instagram, of all social media forms, a new release for 2013.
Revealing the news, the band wrote: "DNA upgrades, spontaneous evolution and NEW YEAH YEAH YEAHS RECORD ARRIVING SPRING 2013! finally.”
The new release is expected to drop in spring 2013, with the band revealing a new album was in the works earlier this year. At the end of 2011, Karen O hinted the band had something in the works. At the time, she said: "been tinkering around on some new Yeah Yeah Yeahs music with the boys."
In addition to statements from Karen O, James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem was once rumored to be producing the upcoming release. Murphy, who instead is working with Arcade Fire, denied he was involved with such a project.
Nevertheless, while the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have been less active over the past few years, they did a comeback show, of sorts, in New York on December 8. At the Union Pool venue, the band performed as part of a benefit for Hurricane Sandy. The crowd was a small group of 70.
Aside from a comeback, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ performance featured a new track – one likely to appear on the upcoming album. Titled “Despair,” the song was one of the 12 career-spanning tracks performed.
