Wyclef Jean has rejected accusations that his controversial revelations about former lover Lauryn Hill in his new book titled "Purpose: An Immigrant's Story" is a way to attack her character.

The Haitian-American musician, who wrote in his freshly-released memoir that Hill lied to him over the paternity of her first-born child with Rohan Marley, says that he is simply being honest and nothing else.

In a recent interview with MTV News, Jean made it clear that slating Hill's reputation in public isn't his intention, but finding a proper closure for a painful memory of the past certainly is.

The "Hips Don't Lie" crooner, who has also finally confessed that he had an extramarital affair with Hill during their Fugees days, said: "It's important because at the end of the day, I'm not coming at (attacking) L (Lauryn). This is a period of my life, and that's how I felt. If anything, I just brought closure to a chapter - because at the end of the day, I didn't do (an album like) Miseducation, so there was no closure in my chapter, but I kept writing and writing.

"It was important just to be honest. I'm not known to sugarcoat, so it's either yes or no. And for (someone) picking up something and reading it, I don't think that I should've left it (affair with Hill) as a myth. Because even if I said it or she said, history is gonna say what it is.

"If she was reading my book, I don't think she would want me to be any other way than honest with my book. Because she's straight-up honest."
