Will.i.am Hoping To Startup A Technology Talent Show
Just last month, will.i.am sent the first song to Earth from Curiosity on Mars. Being fascinated by technology, will.i.am appeared at the introductions to the 2011 FIRST Robotics Competition, and in January 2011, Intel appointed will.i.am to "director of creative innovation", leading to having input in developing smart phones, tablets and laptops. He is also the founder of i.am.angel, a non-profit organisation for "transforming lives through education, opportunity and inspiration."
Now, for his next project, will.i.am plans to stage a new technology talent show similar to American Idol. Instead of rating contestants on their singing abilities, he hopes to allow technical wizards to present their latest ideas.
Being the innovation director for Intel, will.i.am is targeting this new show to young techs, hoping that they will be able to develop new gadgets and ideas. Currently will.i.am is one of the judges on "The Voice" with Danny O'Donoghue, Jessie J and Sir Tom Jones. The ultimate winner of the singing talent series receives a lucrative recording contract with a major record company. Will.i.am believes that the winner of his technology talent show will gain many more rewards than the equivalent talent show. Looking further down the line, the new technology will most likely create a lot of jobs, having a huge impact on the economy.
Backing up his belief, will.i.am said, “Every year, companies like Google need more innovators ... We need creative people working with broadcasters, making smart content to inspire people to be geniuses. It will be great TV and great for society”
Despite his great idea for a series, will.i.am has yet to find a TV network to take up his idea, although negotiations are in progress with some broadcasters.
