Many Dipset fans tag capo Jim Jones as the bête noire-- the unfavorite, the worst of the worst. Jones always ruins first-rate beats with cut-rate rhymes. On "We Fly High" it's no different. But to attack the lyrics is to miss the point. This isn't a diss track, a slice-of-life narrative, a posse cut, or a rap&b duet. Jones knows his limits. "We Fly High" is about going to the club, then leaving the club. No surprise it's tailored for the clubs, not earbuds, as handclaps and dot-matrix synths simmer under a decadent back-and-forth chorus: "We fly high/ No lie/ You know this." The verses dabble in Woody Allen-style wealth pornography, peppered with absurd interjections like "light change!" and "that Grey Poupon!" Then right on cue, above a flurry of sex sighs, Jones starts to slowly strangle his anthem with ad-libs. Good til then though.
