The singer from New York looked visibly stunned to be selected as this year's winner.
Nicki Minaj seemed extraordinarily shocked (as I’m sure several viewers were) to hear her name announced as the Best Female Video winner up against:
“We Found Love” (Rihanna)
“Part of Me” (Katy Perry)
“Love You Like a Love Song” (Selena Gomez)
“Love on Top” (Beyonce)
“Starships” (Nicki Minaj)
Wearing a black and red body suit, yellow wig and police hat she gave quite the unusual acceptance speech, leaving Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa and much of the audience with confused expressions on their faces.
The song was extremely popular and got an even bigger boost after being showcased on Glee.
