Not quite rock, not quite a singer-songwriter in the traditional sense, and not really a crooner, nineteen year-old Scottish born Paolo Nutini is all pop, and nearly all good. His vibrant debut is the kind of album that breathes fresh life into the genre, and renews faith in pop music.

Like most pop albums, the slick overproduced instrumentation overwhelms the vocals. Unlike many of them, you actually want to hear Nutini's gorgeous vocals, rather than have them hidden under the shroud of shiny music. The passionate tones of Nutini's raspy vocals make even the most generic of songs, like bland up-tempo jangling "New Shoes" hard to ignore. Nutini is an artist worth getting excited over; as there is far more promise than disappointment here.
