Usher Talks New Music for 2014
What a year Usher had for 2012 – a hit album followed by multiple successful singles and then a judging gig on The Voice. Then, for 2013, he disappeared a bit, instead deciding to focus on his film role for Hands of Stone.
The “Climax” singer, however, plans to return for 2014, with new music to start off the year. At the premiere of Justin Bieber’s Believe, he told MTV News on the red carpet: "[You're] going to hear some new music at the top of the year."
Manager Scooter Braun, also at the event, confirmed the plans without giving details by saying: "I've heard Usher's music — get ready."
Usher’s still apparently working in the studio, after spending a year bulking up to play Sugar Ray Leonard on screen. Instagram photos show him working with Pharrell Williams and T.I. Usher touched on this change, explaining: "You guys have probably been following me on Instagram so you see my Afro and my six-pack. So I'm getting out of Sugar Ray Leonard mode and into Usher Ray mode."
The still-untitled album follows Looking 4 Myself, which debuted on top of the Billboard 200 in June 2012. The album generated singles “Climax,” “Scream,” “Lemme See,” “Numb,” and “Dive” and is considered his most experimental release to date.
Additionally, Usher plans to return to The Voice’s judging panel for Season 6 later in 2014.
