Upcoming Pearl Jam Album Close to Completion
Pearl Jam’s upcoming album, a follow-up to 2009’s Backspacer, has been a long journey. While work on the release began two years ago, guitarist Mike McCready revealed in a February 2013 Billboard interview, they took some time off in 2012. In 2013, Pearl Jam returned to the studio to continue recording, revisiting their 2012 demos in the process.
In a recent interview with Seattle radio station KIRO, McCready revealed Pearl Jam’s still-untitled release is close to complete. Calling it “way better than Backspacer,” the guitarist explained the album is going through mixing, with overdubs being recorded. He said: “I’ve been told by the powers that be I can’t say anything yet because we are just mixing it right now. [The powers that be] are basically the five of us and our manager, we sit down and talk about — honestly, we don’t have a date for it yet.”
Although no release date has been announced, it’s expected to hit stores at some point later in 2013 or early 2014.
Even though McCready can’t talk in depth about the album, he vaguely described the sound, saying during the interview: “I think. It’s just different. It’s going to be great. I’m very happy about it and we’re not done with it yet. I’m not sure when it’s out, but it should be out someday [laughs].”
