Tyler the Creator Arrested for Starting “Riot” at SXSW Venue
This past weekend, Odd Future rapper Tyler The Creator was arrested at the Austin-Bergstrom Airport, just two days after allegedly inciting a riot at a South by Southwest Venue.
According to reports and video footage, Tyler yelled at a large crowd twice to push through the gates of one of the venues hosting musical acts during the event. That’s what fans did, apparently surging past employees and nearly injuring one woman in the process.
Confirming this is a video, which shows fans bursting into the Scoot Inn.
As of now, Tyler and his publicist have yet to confirm what happened, including if the rapper in fact did yell at the crowd to push into the venue.
If he’s convicted, he could spend up to a year in jail and face a $4,000 fine.
Like other members of Odd Future, Tyler the Creator has pursued a solo career in recent years, including putting out his own albums and doing guest appearances on other artists’ tracks. His latest was Wolf, which came out in 2013.
As his second full-length solo album, Wolf performed fairly well on the Billboard charts, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard 200, No. 2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and No. 1 on the Top Rap Albums. There’s no word whether a follow-up is in the works.
