Singer-songwriter Trey Songz has been in the mainstream music industry since 2004 but none of his albums had ever reached the top spot on Billboard's Top 200 chart until now.

According to Billboard, the 27-year-old R&B singer's fifth studio album titled "Chapter V," which he released on August 21, has opened up on the number one spot thanks to its 135,000 unit sales during its debut week.

His album is followed by 2 Chainz's "Based on a T.R.U. Story," (48,000 units sold) which held the number one position last week, while the number three spot is currently occupied by the compilation music disc "Now 43."

Songz was expecting a stronger-than-ever market performance from "Chapter V," as according to him, the disc's quality level is higher than all of his previous sets.

"Sonically, vocally, and in respect to the songwriting...It is an album that will take you many places, emotionally and sensually," the "Heart Attack" crooner told the press before the album's release.

After finding out that the high enthusiasm among buyers for his album, he posted a thank you message on his website

"I want to share my deepest feelings with you on how appreciative I am to have fands, friends, Angels and loved ones like you all. This journey I began over 10 years ago has taught me so much. It has given me the faith to believe, the strenth to overcome and courage to wear my heart on my sleeve for you," the message read.
