Totally Sounds Like: Selena Gomez vs. Ne-Yo vs. Gloria Gaynor

Here we are! Its the second week of Totally Sounds Like. Last week, we compared two songs that even the artists admit are very similar Lady Gagas Born This Way and Madonnas Express Yourself.

This week, we are going with something a little more subtle. We are going to compare Selena Gomezs song Love You Like a Love Song with Ne-Yos One in a Million and Gloria Gaynors classic anthem I Will Survive.

At first listen, you may not notice the similarity, especially since all three tunes are in a different tempo but if you pay attention to the chord progressions in the music, you will find that you can easily sing Gomezs song to either of those tunes.

Try playing around with the three songs and you will see how much they actually have in common underneath all of the singing and lyrics. Gomezs track even incorporates the flowing, disco-inspired horns and strings starting in the second verse of the song.

Heres an example of someone mashing up the Ne-Yo and Gomez tracks. Shes pretty good.

So, the girl in this video is not the best singer but she does a good enough job to illustrate the chord similarities between Gomezs and Gaynors songs.
