Totally Sounds Like: One Direction vs. The Clash

For this week's soundalike we compare a modern track with a classic - hear the similarities? Totally Sounds Like: One Direction vs. The Clash

Ever sincer One Direction burst into the music scene with “What Makes You Beautiful,” they have become a household name among teenagers.  Their popularity really is incredible, especially since it seemed to happen overnight.  Of course, that kind of notoriety can be both a blessing and a curse because people will really be paying attention to anything you do.

The boy band recently released their newest single, “Live While We’re Young” from their upcoming Take Me Home album.  Presumably, there were a lot of young female fans who were thrilled by the early release but there were some music lovers who were left fuming.

Why?  They claim that the song bears an uncanny musical resemblance to the Clash’s huge 1982 hit, “Should I Stay or Should I Go?”

Some Twitter comments included:

"I don't even have to say this since you've probably already noticed but listen to the new One Direction song and think The Clash. Wow."

"Hope one direction are paying royalties to the clash for their new song."

"Right, One Direction have quite literally taken the same riff from Should I Stay or Should I Go by the Clash. F--kkkkkkk youuuuuu."

So does it really sound like the 80s classic?  You will have to listen and decide for yourself but I will say that the verses are definitely a little suspect…

Now compare with “Should I Stay or Should I Go?”
