Tiesto Remixes U.K. Dubstep Artist Joker
Having Tiesto remix your single, even before your debut album appears, is a major career boost. That’s what happened exactly to U.K. dubstep artist Joker. According to Spin, Joker’s debut, titled The Vision, is due November 8, but track “Here Come The Lights” from his double A-side single (“My Trance Girl” is the second song) was recently remixed by Tiesto. Featuring Silas Bjerregaard, “Here Come The Lights” originally went under title “Slaughter House” for The Vision and, with Tiesto’s treatment, has had a thumping house beat added to make it more appealing to club audiences. Listen to Tiesto’s remix of “Here Come The Lights” here:
Because of the recent sweeping popularity of dance music, Tiesto began his Club Life Campus Invasion tour on September 15. With 21 dates, the tour will end on October 8 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Expected to draw 26,000, the date is predicted to be the largest single DJ concert in the U.S.
Tiesto has been the only DJ to crack the top 25 touring artists in the world, and Billboard recently profiled him. He told the magazine about bringing dance music to less-standard venues: "There's clearly a new generation of electronic music fans emerging in the U.S. at the moment, and a lot of them are in college. We get a lot of feedback on our social networks from college kids asking me to come play their school, so here I come. I hope this tour will allow me to reach a new crowd that may not have had the chance to see me before."
Tiesto's worldwide manager Michael Cohen added: "We'd always thought about the college market. But hip-hop had such a strong hold. Early this year we decided it was time. College kids are really discovering this music and scene for the first time, and they need a test of the Tiesto experience. It's almost a rite of passage: Whether you like dubstep or techno, whatever your entry point, at some point someone is going to say, 'Have you seen Tiesto?'"
