Tiesto, Laidback Luke Look To Get Fans Involved on World AIDS Day
December 1 is World AIDS Day, and within the dance music community, Tiesto and Laidback Luke are pushing fans to get involved. As part of the DANCE (RED), SAVE LIVES campaign, these two producers, and others, are encouraging fans to unite in an effort to fight the disease for an AIDS-free generation by 2015.
Over the past six years, the organization has raised $200 million, with all money going toward the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. The two producers have been asking fans to donate to (RED)’s CrowdRise page, www.crowdrise.com/DanceREDSaveLives.
In addition to this, Tiesto promises to match the first $100,000 donated, dollar for dollar. Fans have the opportunity to receive unique prizes, be it personal thanks from the DJs, merchandise, greets, or a chance to see Tiesto perform on New Year’s Eve in Atlantic City.
Edward Norton is one of the CrowdRise’s founders, and about this approach by the dance music community, he stated in a release: “The maestros of dance music are using technology in such a big way to fight AIDS this World AIDS Day. We set up CrowdRise to merge generosity with technology and the DANCE (RED), SAVE LIVES campaign does just that. Fans have a fun and easy way to support the cause their artist is most passionate about.”
World AIDS Day also has a musical component. An album, featuring a collaboration between Tiesto and Bono, is being released. Live sets from Stereosonic Melbourne 2012 are being streamed in support. Aside from Tiesto and Laidback Luke, Avicii, Calvin Harris, and Martin Solveig can be watched from (RED)’s YouTube page on December 1 and 2.
