The Weeknd Returns from Break With New Single “Often”
R&B sensation The Weeknd has been relatively silent throughout most of 2014. The singer who came up with his own self-produced and released albums, put out under Trilogy in 2012, returned this week with new track “Often.”
Announced with a tweet on June 24, the song’s both a typical turn for the Canadian-born singer, as well as a routine exercise in R&B lyrics. Hear the new track on his Soundcloud page.
At the same time the new track dropped, a tour with SchoolBoy Q and Jhené Aiko was announced for the fall. Titled King of the Fall, the string of four dates has been described as “Special Live One-Night Events” and begin in Brooklyn. The full listing includes:
September 19 – Brooklyn, NY – Barclays Center
September 21 – Toronto, Canada – Molson Ampitheatre
October 9 – Hollywood, CA – Hollywood Bowl
October 10 – San Francisco, CA – Bill Graham Civic Auditorium
The Weeknd garnered attention with 2012’s Trilogy, featuring material taken from his first three albums released over the course of 2011. That album reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200, but his official major label release is last year’s Kiss Land.
Contributing production as well as lyrics and vocals, The Weeknd saw even more success with Kiss Land, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The album, which had a guest appearance from Drake, resulted in singles “Kiss Land,” “Belong to the World,” “Love in the Sky,” “Live For,” “Pretty,” and “Wanderlust.”
