The Weeknd Planning New Album for 2013
The Weeknd, the name R&B singer Abel Tesfaye uses, recently mentioned he has a follow-up planned for last year’s Trilogy. Although not issuing a direct statement, Tesfaye tweeted a picture of his computer’s desktop. A folder on the desktop read “2013 Untitled Album,” while another read “2013 Art Work.”
Trilogy consisted of three releases: House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence, all of which were nine-track mixtapes put out over the course of 2011. While all three were released through his own XO label, Trilogy appeared on Republic. In previously talking about his music, which started online and then progressed to the live sphere, he explained: "I make good music for long journeys."
Even with a full-length album last year, The Weeknd had never been a live performer; however, since touring, he performed in 2012 at Coachella and stopped in the U.S. in mid 2012. About performing live, he previously said: "There was so much pressure coming in. But I've played it well because being off the circuit has allowed me to practice with this band back home in Toronto for months."
His plans for the future, however, include being able to perform in arenas. Although his 2013 album has no title and no release date as of yet, Tesfaye is continuing with his live performances by doing a brief U.K. tour in March 2013, which includes stops in London, Glasgow, Manchester, and Birmingham.
