The Spice Girls May Reunite for 2016 – 20th Anniversary of “Wannabe”
Rumors of a Spice Girls-Backstreet Boys tour began this week, but a rep for the boy band put a halt to that, saying they have no such plans. But as far as the Spice Girls are concerned, another reunion is in the cards – for a few more years down the road.
Mel C recently did an interview with PA, telling the magazine the girl group plans to reunite in 2016 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of breakout single “Wannabe.” She explained: "It's funny isn't it because people are saying it's the 20 year anniversary of the Spice Girls, and we did get together in '94, but Wannabe wasn't released until '96 so we don't really see it until '96. And you might see a few of us having a little dance about on stage, no plans, but we'll see what we can do for you."
Although the group called it quits in the early ‘00s, the reunited a couple of times over the last few years to perform at the London Olympics and for the premiere of musical Viva Forever.
However, Victoria Beckham has claimed she has no interest in a reunion. Telling Vanity Fair: “Sometimes you have to know when it is time to leave the party. Singing at the Olympics was an incredible honor. I was so proud to do it. That was the perfect time to say, ‘That’s great, thanks to all, but enough'."
For those of you looking for a ‘90s reunion tour, the Backstreet Boys, instead, are going on the road with Avril Lavigne later this year.
