"The Game Belongs To Me" Video Review
Here's Bun B, loose and gravelly, bottomless drawl hopping all over the track with the easy, matter-of-fact authority of an old gunslinger: "Man, I pull up in your city and get my Bush on/ What is that? Lay down the competition, take they cash, crops, and get my push on." And here's Pimp C, vicious nasal sneer sinking and stretching out into a cold singsong taunt, dispensing practical advice to bottom-feeders: "Trickin' ain't dead/ It just moved to the web."
Here's Pimp C's track, heartbeat/handclap drums slowly ticking while woozy guitar plucks and dizzy organs hum away deep in the mix like half-remembered fragments drifting around in your mind when you're the most stoned you've ever been in your life.
After a long incarceration and two middling solo albums, there was no guarantee we'd ever get this UGK again, two masters making Texas folk music so deep and resonant it feels like it's always existed, like making this music is just as easy and natural as breathing. Every once in a long while, a veteran doesn't let you down.
