Tegan and Sara Blast Odd Future For Homophobia

Canadian indie rock duo criticize hip-hop collective and media for showing support. Tegan and Sara Blast Odd Future For Homophobia

In a detailed message on the group's site, Tegan And Sara's Sara Quin addressed hip-hop artist Tyler The Creator's sophomore album "Goblin". The guitarist/vocalist slammed the Odd Future member for his offensive lyrics and took aim at other artists and critics for the lack of response in regards to material's content.

"When will misogynistic and homophobic ranting and raving result in meaningful repercussions in the entertainment industry?", wrote the Canadian singer, noting her outrage comes not just as "both a girl and a lesbian", but as a human being. "While an artists who can barely get a sentence fragment out without using homophobic slurs is celebrated on the cover of every magazine, blog and newspaper, I'm disheartened that any self-respecting human being could stand in support with a message so vile."

Quin continued to criticize the rapper's sense of musical style while noting the industry's stand on the topic.

"In any other industry would I be expected to tolerate, overlook and find deeper meaning in this kid's sickening rhetoric?", she said. "Why should I care about this music or its 'brilliance' when the message is so repulsive and irresponsible?"

The one-half of Tegan And Sara continued to discuss the album's content, questioning if individuals were afraid to speak out in fear of receiving "backlash" from the artist himself. Quin even went on to state no one sticks up for the women and gay communities now because "it seems entirely uncool to do so in the indie rock world".

Tyler The Creator responded to the post several days later via Twitter prior to Odd Future's scheduled gig in Toronto, Canada. The rapper retaliated simply tweeting the following: "If Tegan and Sara need some hard d**k, hit me up!"

A reply has yet to be made by the Canadian group or by any other artists or members in the media after Quin concluded her message saying she hoped "that someone reading this might be inspired to speak out".
