Taylor Swift Wrote All Songs for Fifth Album, Had Max Martin Produce
We’ve been hearing Taylor Swift’s fifth album is ahead of schedule and that, as usual, people in her life (Harry Styles!) will be song fodder. But beyond this, especially with the stronger pop turn of Red, we really haven’t had a clear idea about what it could sound like, but two sources came forward recently to describe what listeners should expect.
One is Scott Borchetta, who discovered Swift. He told Rolling Stone that the “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer is going in a clear pop direction this time, with Max Martin producing. Just how pop? He explained, via Popdust: “Taylor fans are going to love it. Will country stations play a complete pop song just because it’s her? No. But when she comes to town, her friends at country radio will come and see her.”
Pal Ed Sheeran, who’s gearing up for his own solo release at the moment, told the press that the “22” star wrote all of her own material. Sheeran’s statement contrasts with earlier reports that Swift was looking to collaborate with more songwriters this time around.
But Sheeran confirms that, in some way or another, the singer’s fifth album is still an evolution. He said: “She has to evolve. If she makes another Red everyone will be like, ‘It sounds like Red.’ But she’s evolved and I think it’s a positive step.”
