Taylor Swift Writes New Song for ‘One Chance’ Soundtrack
One Chance, a film about Britain’s Got Talent’s Paul Potts, is scheduled to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival this coming Friday, but the U.K. competition show’s contestant isn’t the only singer involved in the project. According to reports from The Daily Mail, the film influenced Taylor Swift so much that she wrote a song for its soundtrack, along with Fun.’s Jack Antonoff.
Called “Sweeter Than Fiction,” a rather apt title considering Potts’ ascent from unknown singer to what he is today, the song plays during the movie’s final credits. The TIFF screening is expected to be the official debut of the track; however, The Daily Mail points out, the “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer may perform the track after the event.
According to Harvey Weinstein, Simon Cowell assisted getting Swift on the soundtrack: “Simon knows her through the One Direction connection and he thought she’d be touched by the film, and he was right because she was.”
The country-pop singer’s last album Red proved to be a huge commercial success, spawning such well-known singles as “Trouble” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” and now, a follow-up appears to be in the works. While “Sweeter Than Fiction” may just hold fans over for the time being, the singer discussed her plans at the CMA Music Festival in June. Writing is expected to begin soon, but because of her creative process to give each album a unique sound, the release likely won’t drop for at least two years.
