Taylor Swift Makes Dig at Harry Styles at MTV VMAs
In terms of winning, Taylor Swift didn’t do too badly at the 2013 MTV VMAs. Although she wasn’t one of the evening’s favorites (award wise, that’ll go to Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis), she did take home a Moonman for Best Female Video for “I Knew You Were Trouble.”
On the other hand, multiple reports paint a different picture of the “Red” singer’s behavior at the event. Specifically, she is thought to have said to pal Selena Gomez while seated in the audience, “Shut the f—k up” when One Direction got on stage. The boy band, at the time, were thanking their fans and proceeding to present Gomez with an award for Best Pop Video for “Come & Get It.”
But that’s not all. Clearly this time, when Swift when up on stage to make a speech for her award, she indirectly went after Harry Styles, rumored to be one of the inspirations for “Trouble,” with the other being John Mayer. In her speech, she said: "I want to thank the fans because I tweeted about this a lot, I really wanted this. I also want to thank the person who inspired this song because he knows exactly who he is, because now I've got one of these."
After the event, the boy band member and the “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” singer were photographed together at an after party.
Do you think Swift’s behavior was appropriate at the VMAs? Or, considering Miley Cyrus’ level of tastelessness during the show, is it excusable?
