Taylor Swift Explains Why She Goes Through So Many Men
For the upcoming issue of Glamour, Taylor Swift appears on the cover. But this isn’t an ordinary issue; her presence celebrates its 75th year. To lead into it, Glamour revealed Swift had been giving dating advice during her photo shoot and followed up with an interview.
During that, Swift says she does a “freeze-out” whenever it appears the guy has the upper hand in the relationship. What’s a freeze-out, exactly? She explained: “You don’t respond to any of his texts or calls until he does something desperate [like] shows up. Or he calls and leaves a voice mail. Something that makes it very clear to you that he’s interested.”
While this might appear like Swift plays the silent treatment or ignores her partner until she gets her way, she views it differently – more along the lines of having the guy prove he’s interested before she gets fully involved: “I think everyone should approach relationships from the perspective of playing it straight and giving someone the benefit of the doubt. Until he establishes that this is a game. And if it’s a game, you need to win. The best thing to do is just walk away from the table.”
And when a relationship is a game, she knows she wins when: “[T]hey come back. And if they don’t, then they didn’t care enough to begin with.”
This, of course, influences her music, and the “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer says she’ll continue to write about her personal life: “One of my big goals as a human being is to continue to write what’s really happening to me, even if it’s a tough pill to swallow for people around me.... I do fear that if I ever were to have someone in my life who mattered, I would second-guess every one of my lyrics.”
Such statements fall in line with the country-pop star’s upcoming album, which is reportedly ahead of schedule and is expected to be a bit more confessional. The release follows 2012’s Red.
