Tamia Making a Comeback After 6 Years
Tamia disappeared from the music scene six years ago but she’s back with Beautiful Surprise. The singer/songwriter’s fifth studio album entered the Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in the #6 spot when it was released back on August 28, 2012. The title track is currently holding the #5 slot on the Adult R&B list which is the best single she’s had since 2003’s “Officially Missing You” was at the top of the chart.
I’ve got to say that, after listening to it, the fact that it’s so successful really is a “beautiful surprise.” There’s nothing wrong it but it almost feels like she failed to notice that music has evolved in the last six years since it sounds pretty dated.
Tamia, herself, has an explanation for this: "Considering I don't have a television show or anything else like that pushing the music, this is definitely a testament to R&B and its fans," she said. "Fans are out there supporting the music."
The 11-song album was recorded in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Nashville and features tracks that will utilize every note of Tamia’s five-octave range.
The Canadian songstress has been a mainstay in R&B music since her 1995 hit “You Put a Move on My Heart" which was followed by "Missing You" (with Brandy, Gladys Knight and Chaka Khan), "So Into You" and "Stranger in My House."
She will be opening for R. Kelly during his Single Ladies Tour which begins on October 13, 2012. In the meantime, check out the music video for “Beautiful Surprise.”
