Talib Kweli and Q-Tip Collaborating Together on New Album
In a recent interview with XXL, Talib Kweli revealed his plans for his next album. For those that don’t know, Kweli put out his fifth solo album Prisoner of Consciousness back in May.
The next full-length release, however, is a collaboration with A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip, with a title of Gravitas. Explaining this decision, Kweli told the magazine: “Q-Tip—I’m working with Q-Tip on my new album. Just being around him and seeing him work, I’ve now watched him get giddy over samples and play me beats and stuff. And it’s like, wow, is this how he made ‘Midnight Marauders’?”
At the moment, Kweli and Q-Tip are still planning out the album, and thus Kweli didn’t offer up many other details in the interview.
Prisoner of Consciousness dropped on May 7, opening at No. 48 on the Billboard 200 after a few months of delays. Even though it received primarily positive reviews, only 14,000 copies have been sold so far.
The release included an extensive and varied roster of guest artists. Nelly, Miguel, Curren$y, Kendrick Lamar, Marsha Ambrosius, Busta Rhymes, and Ryan Leslie all made appearances, while RZA, Boi-1da, Harry Fraud, S1, Terrace Martin, Oh No, and J. Cole produced various tracks.
In support of the release, Kweli is going on the road soon with Big K.R.I.T. and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
