Swizz Beatz Talks About Alicia Keys’ New Album
Alicia Keys has been in the studio for a new album, a follow-up to 2009’s The Element of Freedom. The singer, however, has kept mum about the release, but on Thursday, husband Swizz Beatz spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about Keys’ still-untitled fifth studio album.
Giving an overall summary of the sounds listeners should expect to hear, the hip-hop producer said: "My wife's album's coming out. It's an amazing, amazing album full of timeless pieces -- which is what music needs now."
Swizz Beatz additionally mentioned he worked with his wife on a couple of the album’s tracks but then admitted she is talented enough to not need the help. However, even in talking about the album, he did not reveal its release date.
In late fall, Keys hinted with a tweet that she was in putting together a new album and, for further proof, included a picture of her in the studio behind a piano. At the time, she wrote: “The process.... Are u ready for the next installment? ;-)”
The same time her husband was speaking about her album, Keys was busy performing one of its tracks, “Not Even The King” at a City of Hope gala dinner in Los Angeles. If you haven’t had a chance to hear the track yet, listen to it below:
The Element of Freedom debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, selling 417,000 copies its first week. Since dropping that album three years ago, Keys produced music for Broadway play Stick Fly, which closed in February 2012.
