Steven Tyler Says That 'Idol Wasn't All Fun'

After two seasons on the reality singing competition, Tyler explains why he left. Steven Tyler Says That 'Idol Wasn't All Fun'

Just before joining American Idol, Steven Tyler was definitely having his share of troubles with his band, Aerosmith.  It seemed that every week, the members were exchanging insults in a very public war of words and they made no effort to conceal their disdain for Tyler accepting the job on the judges’ panel.

Still, he ended up being an entertaining and effective part of the Idol team and fans and contestants alike enjoyed his antics.  Unfortunately, he has chosen to leave the show and he has opened about the reasons for his departure.

He said: "After some long...hard...thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit. I strayed from my first love, AEROSMITH, and I’m back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band."

Tyler continued: "It was something to do while the storm blew by, to be honest ... not my cup of tea. I loved it and hated it. It was a great job, I sat next to J.Lo and I made a ton of money. It was a moment in life and it became larger than life. It was just hard work -- seven-hour days and then I went and did the [Aerosmith] album for eight hours after that. The show's about kids and what you do to nurture their talent. They wanted me to take the p--s out of the kids and I don't have that in me. That's not what I'm about. That's more about that other guy [Cowell]. Not me."

At least he knows who he is and, hopefully, this little break allowed Aerosmith the time to heal and Tyler to prove that he’s sober and ready to work hard.
