With electronic dance music’s rising popularity has come the proliferation of festivals. While EDM-focused festivals have been a staple of the European summer scene for years, they’re garnering more attention in the U.S. Electric Daisy Carnival and Ultra Music Festival have drawn hundreds of thousands over the past two years, and other events, such as Electric Zoo in New York, are gaining momentum with larger lineups spread out over more days. The Sound Wave Music Festival, held at a waterpark in Arizona, falls into the latter type.

Announced this week by promoters Steve LeVine Entertainment & Public Relations and Disco Donnie Presents, the third Sound Wave Music Festival is scheduled for Saturday September 29 at the Big Surf Waterpark. This electronic music festival debuted in 2011 with three stages of performers, a live art exhibit, and state-of-the-art production. 20 international and national DJs, including Diplo, Boys Noize, Cut Chemist, Planet of the Drums, Kraddy, and Porter Robinson, performed.

Sound Wave returned for a second round in October 2011, this time with Kaskade, Dirty South, Z-Trip, Manufactured Superstars, and Trolley Snatcha are significant draws.

For September 2012, Sound Wave is expected to have its largest crowd yet. Headliners have not been announced, although a poll on the event’s Facebook page shows that fans want Daft Punk.

About the event, Steve LeVine, SLE’s Chief Entertainment Officer, said in a release: “We are thrilled to announce the return of Sound Wave music festival this September. Our goal was to be the first to bring electronic dance music fans in Arizona an experience they had never had before and the third installment of this festival is promised to be bigger and better than ever!”
