Songwriter Calls Katy Perry’s Next Album “More Mature”
Ever since last year, Katy Perry has described the follow-up to Teenage Dream as something darker – and also something she’ll take her time putting together. While the Complete Confection, with hit single “Part of Me,” satiated fans’ listening appetites for a while, many are wondering, “When will Perry put out a follow-up and what will it sound like?”
Although release dates have been estimated, with PerezHilton.com claiming the album would drop this summer, one of Perry’s songwriters Bonnie McKee came forward to MTV News to describe the sound. Previously, the two worked on “Teenage Dream” and “Part of Me.” McKee told MTV:
"We were just in [Katy's hometown of] Santa Barbara and we wrote three or four songs, I guess. So I have four songs with her coming out. I think it's a little bit more grown-up and it's really interesting. I'm really excited for the world to hear it because she's just... she's taking a new approach. And I don't want to say too much about it, but it's definitely different. It's definitely a little more mature than the 'California Gurls' of yesterday."
Back in April, Perry gave an update of her own, saying the release was halfway recorded. Producers Max Martin, Dr. Luke, and Sia are expected to appear. However, last year in multiple interviews, the singer claimed she doesn’t plan to do the same thing over again, instead aiming for a darker sound.
Considering Perry has made a career as a bubbly pop princess of cupcake bras and kissing girls, do you think this is a wise career move?
