"Show Stopper" Video Review
The typical moan: Today’s pop stars are soulless svengali inventions without personality. Danity Kane easily fit this cranky cry, having come together as a result of MTV’s Diddy-curated "Making the Band". Except, because the cameras follow these five girls everywhere, that no-personality thing is rendered bunk. How else would I know D. Wells loves anime? "Show Stopper" is an airy piece of production, though.
Constructed around a pedestrian snap&b beat courtesy of Pretty Ricky producer Jim Jonsin, it lacks the bass necessary to elevate breathy singers Aubrey and Aundrea. Without the bottom support, they sound like a swarm of hummingbirds-- no blend, no unity. There’s also a chopped and screwed bridge and a few mentions of "hyphy" on the outro, completing the 18-month rap microgenre triumvirate. Which makes me think, maybe Danity should just sing about anime. That would probably make more sense.
