Selena Gomez Hints at Justin Bieber Breakup with “Cry Me a River” Cover
They’re together – and then they’re not. And, a week later, they’re spotted talking, although their relationship status isn’t solidified. But based on a concert Selena Gomez gave at the Best Buy Theater in New York over the past weekend, she and Justin Bieber are done – at least for the next few weeks.
The concert, a benefit for UNICEF held on January 19, notably featured the former Disney star covering Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River” – a song originally directed toward Britney Spears. For her acoustic version, she changed the lyrics to, "Now there's just no chance, for you and me, there'll never be."
For those not keeping score in their relationship, the “Boyfriend” singer also covered the same song – and did it acoustically – in November 2012. The teen star recently photographed smoking marijuana has additionally been rumored to have removed reference to Gomez in live performances of recent single “Beauty and a Beat.”
While not once saying the Biebs’ name, Gomez hinted they were over. At one point, she told the audience: "I've been through a lot the past few months. It's been weird and sad and cool. This song definitely speaks to me."
How Gomez feels is uncertain. While a source at the concert told Us Weekly the teen singer and actress appeared mad while performing, the former Wizards of Waverly Place star had an upbeat manner while talking about her friendship with Taylor Swift and role in upcoming film Spring Breakers. Following up on the latter, she discussed plans to take more risks – both on screen and in her music – and then said cryptically: "Everything happens for a reason, so enjoy every moment."
