Selena Gomez Cancels Tour of Asia and Australia; Issues Apology
Selena Gomez has issued an open apology to her fans after deciding to cancel her upcoming tour of Asia and Australia due to exhaustion.
The former Disney star was expected to head East and then Down Under early in 2014 for a series of shows, but in a statement released on Thursday, she announced that she will not go through with those plans.
"My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them," Gomez wrote. "But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be. To my fans, I sincerely apologize and I hope you guys know how much each and every one of you mean to me."
Historically, A-list musicians cancel their foreign tours only because of health concerns or emotional issues (public meltdowns). There is nothing that suggests Gomez isn't healthy, although she did embarrass herself in public a few weeks ago by blurting out the F-word while on stage during her concert at LA's Staples Center.
Showing more signs of poor emotional well-being, the 21-year-old then said on the microphone: "Sorry, the sound isn't working. Are you guys having a good night? I promise, a lot cooler people are gonna come out tonight."
The news of her tour cancellation comes almost immediately after that incident. A source close to her, however, has assured there is nothing to worry about and that the "Come & Get It" hitmaker.
"Selena is OK," the unnamed insider told E! News. "She just realized it was time to take a break for herself. She's been working nonstop for six years. She hit a wall. She wants to spend time with her family, especially for the holidays. She doesn't like to say no, but she just reached a point where she needs a minute. She is not having a breakdown. She wants to be the healthiest that she can be and this means taking a little break. But she is fine."
Those who bought tickets to Gomez's shows will be fully refunded.
