Scrapped Video for Lady Gaga’s “Do What U Want” Leaked
Toward the end of 2013, Lady Gaga’s collaboration with R. Kelly “Do What U Want” came out as a single, but the video initially appeared delayed. Then, at the time the video was supposed to drop, Gaga recorded an alternate version with Christina Aguilera, after their successful Voice performance, and that dropped in January 2014.
So fans and pop culture junkies have wondered what happened to the video – and this week, that question was answered. For one, TMZ got a hold of the footage, while the New York Post’s Page Six put out a gossip piece about issues on set.
For one, Page Six states the singer wasn’t aware about R. Kelly’s child porn charges, or about allegations director Terry Richardson has assaulted some of the models he has worked with over the years. But supposedly, Gaga found out about both and, combined with “betrayal” from her staff, she shelved the project.
As well, sources tell the Post that the video seems like an “advertisement” for rape – with drugging Gaga at the beginning, a “party” starting as she falls asleep, and Richardson appearing in the footage to take pictures of the singer when she’s naked.
Overall, this time it seems that Gaga’s subversive, pop culture-critical side went a bit too far and was taken too literally.
“Do What U Want,” the second single from ARTPOP, charted at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 and was followed by Zedd collaboration “G.U.Y.”
