Scissor Sisters Announce New Album, U.K. Dates
Although the Scissor Sisters have discussed their upcoming album Magic Hour since last year, they announced the release date today. Their fourth studio album, Magic Hour is scheduled to hit stores on May 28 and will be preceded by single “Only The Horses,” which comes out May 20.
Discussing the album, singer Jake Shears describes its sound, stating: "It's a sweet joyful mélange of beat-driven future-pop. It style-hops all over the place unabashedly."
In the fall, the ensemble talked about their approach for Magic Hour, aiming for a back-to-basics sound as they entered the recording studio. At the time, singer Ana Matronic told NME: "[Our last album] 'Night Work' was the most cohesive album we've done whereas the others were a bit of a grab bag. I think this might be going back to being like that. We sometimes say we should do a concept album but we are a concept, we have a philosophy of what we do. We're stupid - that's our concept!"
The group previewed song “Shady Love” in early January. What did you think of their sound?
Multiple producers assisted with Magic Hour, including Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams, Diplo, and Boys Noize. With three house producers behind the work, could Magic end up having a dance vibe? Calvin Harris, producer of Rihanna’s “We Found Love,” is behind “Only The Horses,” and regarding working with him, Shears said: "When we wrote 'Only The Horses', I immediately knew that he'd help knock it out of the park."
Days before “Horses” is released, the Scissor Sisters are playing two UK dates at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire in London on May 16 and 17. Tickets for the dates go on sale later this month.
