Kelly Rowland - Rose Colored Glasses Video
"Rose Colored Glasses" Video Review
"Rose Colored Glasses" is a song by American recording artist Kelly Rowland from her self-titled, third studio album. The ballad was written by Ester Dean with lyrics that echo real life situations that Rowland had been in, where she felt like she needed to leave. It’s really a midtempo powerpop number with a strong, steady beat and polished synth effects behind Kelly’s strong vocals, exactly what you’ve come to expect from a Dr. Luke track.
“The inspiration behind the song is just my real life,” Kelly says of the Ester Dean-penned track, while the lyrics "explore the subtle ways that perspective can truly change everything ... [telling] a story of a relationship that, on the outside, seems troubled".
Rowland said that when she was recording the song, with Dean in the studio, she began to cry as the thought of all the "toxic relationships" she had been in. During the single's video shoot, she further explained that the song has attributable elements and echoes of her real life experiences. "It’s just so nice to express that emotion and get it all out there because everyone out there, I’m sure you guys can relate to the pain of feeling like a complete idiot when everybody’s laughing at you when you’re getting played by the person in your life at the time. And you just need to take off your rose colored glasses."
The video was shot in 3-D and was directed by British fashion photographer John "Rankin" Wadell, who's previous credits include "Say it Right" by Nelly Furtado and "Acapella" by Kelis. The scenes focus on "vivid colors and unique visuals". During the shoot Rowland said "This video has been one of the best video experiences I’ve ever had. I’ve shot a lot of videos, but this one is probably the most intriguing because of how it’s shot, the lighting—everything is so detailed." Video director, Rankin, said "The concept for the video is 3D, we've used turntables and circular trap so we can go around her and see from all angles."
The clip is visually captivating with Miss Kelly in high end fashion dresses, corsets and hoddie tops as she fights with her ex lover whom everyone sees as the perfect man behind their rose colored glasses.
If the album is filled with these and dance numbers it’s certainly going to be a fall highlight for sure when it hits stores in September.
