Rihanna Premieres New Song “Stay” on ‘SNL’
Rihanna’s seventh studio album is expected to hit stores on November 19, so making an appearance on Saturday Night Live is a natural promotion strategy. Just a few days before her November 10 performance, her fourth so far, the video for latest single “Diamonds” debuted. “Diamonds,” already on the radio prominently, was featured in her SNL appearance, as was another track, titled “Stay.”
“Stay,” which is expected to be a collaboration with Mikky Ekko, has been described as a more emotional and personal effort from the singer. There’s no word whether it will be a follow-up to “Diamonds.” To hear the new song, watch Rihanna’s performance below:
While the rest of us have to wait roughly a week for the album to drop, journalists and fans got a preview also on November 10. Held at Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club in Manhattan, the album is considered a more mature, and somewhat surprising, effort from the singer, especially with regards to her recent image. The release, according to reports, reflects the character and mood of “Stay.”
Unlike her more dance-influenced sixth album, Unapologetic draws from a wider range of collaborations. In addition to Mikky Ekko, David Guetta, Future, Eminem, and Chris Brown collaborated with the singer, and their contributions have been added. An Emeli Sande-written track, called “Half of Me,” is part of the bonus material.
