Rihanna Officially Signs for Roc Nation after Leaving Def Jam
Rihanna's longstanding professional relationship with Def Jam Recordings has finally come to an end.
The 26-year-old Barbadian songstress signed with the hip hop label in 2005 and went on to make seven hit albums during their partnership. But her nine-year affiliation with the company is now a thing of the past as she has left them for Jay-Z's Roc Nation.
RiRi may have joined Roc Nation as their recording artist just now, but she has been managed by them for good four years. Hence, the two parties are no stranger to each other.
With her on board, Roc Nation now has 14 mainstream artists on their books, with the names that ring out the most being of Calvin Harris, DJ Mustard, J. Cole, Jay Electronica, Rita Ora and of course Jay-Z.
But despite having parted ways, Def Jam will still help Bajan Babe with promotional activities of her future albums. They have reportedly been in discussions regarding a working arrangement, according to Billboard.
Meanwhile, her signing for Roc had been on the cards for several years due to her excellent bond with Jay-Z. It is pertinent to mention here that it was Hova who handed Rihanna a six-album deal when he was the Def Jam president and she was just an aspiring singer. Their hit music collaborations have also earned them several awards.
