Rihanna Gives $1.75 Million for Cancer Treatment in Barbados
Rihanna has given a donation of $1.75 million to a Barbados-based hospital's cancer department as a tribute to her late grandmother Clara Braithwaite.
The pop superstar's generous gesture will finance the purchase of three expensive medical equipment, which will be used for the treatment of cancer patients in the region.
RiRi said that the donation is her way to give back to her native land and added: "I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives or at least extend them."
Her grandma, whom she affectionately called "Dolly," passed away earlier in the summer after battling with cancer for a number of years.
In return, the said hospital's admin have changed the name of their radiotherapy unit to the Clara Braithwaite Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine.
The "Diamonds" singer told the press of the donation over the weekend when she visited the hospital along with several members of her family.
It is believed that the 24-year-old singer had a very close relationship with her grandma. In fact, upon learning of her ailing health back in June, she postponed her tour of Europe for a short while to be with her.
