Rihanna Finishing Up Sixth Album, According to Producer
Currently on tour and recently announcing her latest single, not to mention appearing on covers for Glamour and the upcoming Vogue Italia as “Woman of the Year,” Rihanna has been practically everywhere, but her presence isn’t going to disappear any time soon. As we wrote last month, the red-haired singer was in the studio to record her sixth album, supposedly an updated and extended version of Loud tentatively titled Louder.
Although the singer herself hasn’t given much of an update on the state of recording, one of her producers did. Verse Simmonds, the second half of production duo the Juggernauts who previously worked with Rihanna on single “Man Down,” told MTV’s Mixtape Daily on Friday: "From what I understand, she is closing the album up now, and we did two records for her that she really, really loved and I'm really excited about them as well. They are records that we wrote and produced as the Jugganauts."
While neither Simmonds nor his partner Sham “Sak Pase” Joseph revealed their contributing tracks, he is almost fully certain that their material will make it onto the album. But the producer, who is also behind a track from Jay-Z and Kanye West’s collaborative album Watch the Throne, gave a vague hint as to the sound of Rihanna’s new release, noting that their work will be different from “Man Down”: "[W]e always try to constantly — as producers, as artists — we try to always come with something different, a whole new sound.”
Although the singer has remained moderately mum about the state of her upcoming album, she recently finished up the North American leg of her LOUD tour and, by the fall, will be doing 28 dates in the U.K. Although opener Cee Lo Green quit earlier and J. Cole had to step up on the LOUD U.S. dates, DJ Calvin Harris will accompany the pop star in the U.K. Harris previously opened for Rihanna on the Australian portion of her tour and earlier accompanied Katy Perry in the U.K. About Harris as her opener, Rihanna mentioned: "Calvin is the perfect fit for the Loud tour. He is going to bring something unique and fun for the fans.”
