Rihanna Earns 22nd Top 10 Single on Billboard Hot 100
Rihanna’s is on her way to becoming one of the female artists with the most Top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. As of this week, her latest single, the Calvin Harris-produced “Where Have You Been?”, entered the Top 10, moving from No. 11 to No. 9. As of now, she has 22 Top 10-charting singles.
However, a few other artists have her beat for this record. Madonna, for both male and female artists, has had 38 singles in the Top 10 over her 30-year career. Following Madonna for female artists are Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, and Whitney Houston. All of these artists have had significantly longer careers compared to Rihanna, whose first single, “Pon de Replay,” entered the charts in July 2005.
“Where Have You Been?” is another dance-influenced single off Rihanna’s sixth studio album Talk That Talk and the fifth single off the album. The other three singles were “You Da One,” “Talk That Talk,” and “Birthday Cake,” all of which charted in the Top 40 but were not mega-hits in the same vein as “We Found Love.”
Regarding “Birthday Cake,” Rihanna addressed her collaboration with Chris Brown. In a recent interview, she mentioned controversy didn’t cross her mind and working together was simply professional. In addition to Brown’s appearance to expand the track, Rihanna appeared on Brown’s “Turn Up The Music.” She said: "I thought people were gonna be surprised that we finally did a record together, but I didn't see how people could think it was a bad thing, you know? In my mind, it was just music."
