Rico Love Gives Update on Usher’s Eighth Studio Album
Usher’s 2012 effort Looking 4 Myself saw him branch out stylistically and musically while still experimenting with the electronic sounds of 2010’s Raymond v. Raymond. Collaborators, including songwriter Eric Bellinger, have spoke about a follow up, and Rico Love confirmed it’s in the works with MTV News.
Love, a long-time collaborator who worked with the singer on 2004’s Confessions, explained they’ve been in the studio together and that Usher continues to get better as a singer. He explained: "He's in a great place, and sonically, he's sounding the best he's ever sounded. But he always gets better vocally with each album. I always noticed that about him."
The two have had arguments in the past, but it appears that both are in a good place right now. About working together again, Love said: "We got in the studio and made something very amazing; we've been speaking every day since. And that's, like, my real family — he put me on. Usher gave me my opportunity. I always say, 'It's God and Usher who are responsible for my career.' "
Both Love and Bellinger hinted that Usher will return to his traditional R&B sound with this effort.
Looking 4 Myself turned into another successful release for the singer and generated singles “Climax,” which featured Diplo, “Scream,” and “Lemme See.”
