Reba to Star in "Malibu Country" Television Sitcom
With her self-titled show being such a success several years ago, country music star, Reba McEntire, is planning a return to the small screen. Reba is set to star in Malibu Country, where she will portray a woman who is dealing with scandalous marital problems.
"I love the whole concept of it: moving from Nashville to L.A., which I did in 2001 when we did the 'Reba' TV show," Reba says.
The premise follows a married mother of three who discovers that her country singing husband is cheating on her and, after she leaves him, she moves her children to Malibu, California to start over and, in the process, resurrect her own music dreams.
Reba’s mother will be played by Lily Tomlin and that just about killed me. Can you believe she’s now old enough to be playing the mother of someone Reba’s age? The country star approves of the casting choice, though: "She's brilliant. I've seen her on Broadway, watched all her movies, saw her on "Laugh In" ... Getting to work with her is a dream come true. We all feel that way on the set."
"I always was impressed with her authenticity," says Lily of Reba. "I'd seen her on Broadway in 'Annie Get Your Gun,' and she was divine."
Fellow cast members will include the recently slimmed-down Sara Rue, Julietta Angelo, Justin Prentice, Jai Rodriguez and Owen Teague.
