Randy Travis in Critical Condition After Heart Surgery
The life of Randy Travis continues to be sad and difficult. The country legend was admitted to a Texas hospital over the weekend and required heart surgery yesterday to manage complications associated with recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy. The condition results in a weakening of the heart muscles due to infection.
The 54-year-old Grammy winner has had some run-ins with the law in the past years related to public intoxication and driving under the influence. Now, it seems, the challenges he faces could have more serious consequences.
His sister-in-law, Teresa Traywick, stated: "We have been told he has had surgery. Our prayers are going out to him because my husband (Randy’s brother, Ricky) just had a heart attack last year, so it is in their family… Their mother passed away at an early age with her heart, so it is like these boys are following right in their footsteps. My prayers are with them. That's all I can say right now."
Some celebrities have already expressed their well-wishes on Twitter:
Singer, Tracy Lawrence, wrote: "Sending a get well message out to my buddy @randytravis tonight. Thinking of you and wishing you a speedy recovery," singer Tracy Lawrence wrote on Twitter.
Fellow Texan, Lance Armstrong, added: "Thoughts go out to @randytravis. Heal up soon my man! One of country music's greatest voices ever."
Travis’ show at the Deadwood Mountain Grand in South Dakota tomorrow night has been cancelled.
