R. Kelly Cancels Concert Due to Illness
R. Kelly had to cancel his planned performances during a promotional trip to New York City after falling ill in Chicago earlier this week. He was supposed to be on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and the Today show but had to bow out due to problems he started having with his throat after an emergency surgery he had to have back in 2010.
The official statement explains: "While on his way to New York this morning to celebrate the publication of his long-awaited memoir SoulaCoaster, multi-platinum R&B superstar R. Kelly was taken ill and had to return to Chicago for medical treatment. Initial indications are that he is suffering from complications from surgery he had last year to treat an abscess on his vocal cords."
A rep for the singer declined to give a timeline on his recovering and instead said that it is "unclear how long Kelly may be sidelined."
At the time, R. Kelly seemed to this that his surgery went well when he wrote: "The doctor said the surgery went well. I know it may not look like it, but it did. I want y'all to continue to pray for me. Be strong out there, I will be back. I know it's a lot of negativity out there, please don't believe the hype. God is good all the time."
The promotional tour was to support his new album, Write Me Back, and his upcoming memoir (I am going to have to read that!).
