Producer Zedd Talks Lady Gaga’s ‘ARTPOP’
Although originally scheduled to drop during the first quarter of 2013, Lady’s Gaga’s third album ARTPOP now appears to be destined for release later this year. Gaga herself, recently seen out and about after recovering from surgery, hasn’t spoken much about the album, but producer Zedd came forward to Rolling Stone this past week with some details.
The German producer known for EDM hit “Clarity” opened for the Mother Monster last spring on her Born This Way Ball Tour and mentioned five or six of his tracks are expected to appear on ARTPOP. He said: "I'm really, really excited for people to hear what we came up with, just really can't imagine they would not like it, to just say it straight up. I think the stuff we've made is pretty f-cking cool."
The producer hinted that he and the pop star worked on other material, which could surface at a later date: "There's obviously more ideas and half-finished songs, but I'm not sure what she will want to put on the album. That is all her decision."
During the interview, Zedd discussed how Interscope’s Jimmy Iovine paired them together. After the singer said she wanted to collaborate, the producer quickly assembled a track. She liked it, and the rest is history.
Even though Gaga has been one of the top commercial stars of the past few years, Zedd told the magazine that neither felt label restrictions during the creative process: "Her first idea of how we should approach the music was just to be completely open – nothing is too crazy. Whatever is dope is dope. We do whatever we want, and we don't have to make a song that's 3 minutes and 30 seconds just to fit the radio."
