Prince Holds Listening Party for New Album ‘PlectrumElectrum’
News of a new Prince album has gone around over the past year, with tracks out and a series of tours leading up to it. Now that release looks to be official, Prince held a listening party after the Super Bowl and his New Girl episode this past weekend.
According to reports, the event started when his new band 3rdeyegirl took the stage to talk about the album and perform its first official single, a song called “Pretzelbodylogic.” About this track, bassist Ida Nielson told the crowd: “This is the first time anyone else other than us has heard it. So come on we really want to know what you think!”
Reports characterize the music played as being a return, of sorts, to Prince’s earlier recordings but also with a bit of Jimi Hendrix and AC/DC thrown into a more stripped-down sound than on his recent records. Nielson explained this to the audience, saying about their recording process: “The album was completely recorded live, analog, old-school. It’s going to pull something inside of you that you may not be feeling listening to music these days.”
Prince and 3rdeyegirl didn’t just touch on the new stuff, however. Reports about the listening party say a concert video played later into the evening involved some reworked classic songs.
In addition to the new music, celebrities Doug E. Fresh, Keshia Cole, Jeff Gordon, Tyson Beckford, and Liv Warfield were all spotted there.
