Primal Scream Making “Sophisticated” Album
This week, Primal Scream revealed they just finished recording their latest album. However, beyond this information, the group has not indicated a release date and has not announced the title, as of yet. Frontman Bobby Gillespie, on the other hand, indicated that this upcoming release, set for some time in 2013, is “sophisticated.”
What does Gillespie mean by this? In speaking with Q, he explained: "It's a rock'n'roll record, but modern rock'n'roll. Pretty psychedelic rock, it's kind of guitar-driven but we use guitars in an orchestral way, not in the normal way people make rock records. I think we do it in a more interesting way. We weave the guitars in with electronics and other acoustic instruments to make the core sound."
He went onto say: "This record is really sophisticated in terms of the production, the instruments we've used and the arrangements. The songwriting has got better! Live we're a guitar rock'n'roll band but when we make records... it would boring if we just made guitar records, we've got our own way of doing things. It's Primal Scream music."
Before the release hits stores next year, Primal Scream are doing a live performance for BBC 6 Music in October. For a week, the radio station takes over Maida Vale Studios in West London, from October 1 to 6, to have multiple acts do live sessions. The shows, performed in the studio, will be broadcast live and streamed online. Aside from Primal Scream, other acts added to the five-day lineup include Jake Bugg, Hot Chip, Bat for Lashes, Kindness, and Cody Chesnutt.
