Pitbull to Rap for Walmart... in Alaska?
Pitbull is definitely known for his collaborations with other artists but now it looks like his most recent partnership is going to be with a retail giant. The Miami rapper is in talks to strike up a marketing deal with Walmart by sending him to the store that gets the most “likes” on Facebook. Currently, it looks like he’s going to be heading to Kodiak, Alaska.
Is it surprising that the people of Kodiak are “liking” the page so much more than anywhere else? If you are suspicious then you should know that you have every right to be. This is no chance happening. A writer for the Boston Phoenix decided to try to make sure Pitbull is sent to the most remote store location and, therefore, threw his support behind the Kodiak Walmart. He has encouraged his readers to do the same and, so far, it’s working.
It’s funny too when you go to the page, there are more than 35,000 “likes” which is more than five times Kodiak’s population. Clearly, outside forces are at work here.
Walmart spokeswoman Sarah Spencer said: "I know Pitbull is hoping his Miami Walmart shoppers start liking their Facebook page. He's definitely coming to Kodiak if Kodiak wins."
Pitbull has never been to Alaska but he said (from Europe where he’s on tour): "Wherever the fans want to have a party, I will be there." He even joked in a tweet: "I hear there's bear repellant at Kodiak, Alaska (at)walmartspecials."
Walmart shoppers have until July 16, 2012 to like their local stores.
