Phillip Phillips' "Home" is Enjoying Olympic Success

The reigning "American Idol" champ has received quite a bonus from being featured. Phillip Phillips' "Home" is Enjoying Olympic Success

Phillip Phillips may have struggled with serious health problems during his stint on American Idol but he didn’t give up and it paid off – he was declared the winner of the latest season of the singing competition.

During his victory performance, he sang his first single “Home” and, after it originally debuted, it peaked at #10 on the Hot 100 and moved 278,000 downloads that first week.  That was back in May but now, suddenly, the song is seeing a lot more action.

The new artist received one of the greatest gifts imaginable – “Home” was chosen by NBC as part of their coverage for the  women's gymnastics events and, really, it was such a good fit.

In the week ending July 29, 2012 it garnered a 69% increase in downloads, selling 40,000 for the week (up from 24,000 a week earlier). It’s on pace to selling 200,000 downloads by the end of this tracking week which is absolutely amazing.

It has now reentered Billboard’s Digital Songs chart at No. 47 and the Hot 100 at No. 84.  It has sold 617,000 to date in the U.S.
