Pharrell Williams Reveals Release Date for ‘GIRL’ Solo Album
After several recent successes in songwriting and guest appearances, Pharrell is releasing his own solo album, titled GIRL. A statement revealed the release date this week.
Including his international hit “Happy,” GIRL is expected to come out on March 3 in the United States and is now available for pre-order.
GIRL is also Williams’ first on Columbia records, and regarding this, he said: "When Columbia Records presented me with the opportunity to make an album, three things came to mind. One was the sense of overwhelming honor that I felt when I realized that they were interested in partnering with me on the album that I had always dreamt of making. Two, it would have to feel festive and urgent. And three, I instantly knew it would be called 'G I R L'. I hope you like it."
Aside from producing alone, Pharrell was part of producer team The Neptunes and fronted hip-hop act N.E.R.D. As a solo artist, he put out In My Mind in 2006. While other projects have filled in the eight years in between his debut solo album and GIRL, In My Mind turned into a success, entering the Billboard 200 charts at No. 3 and peaking at No. 7 on the U.K. album charts.
